Our town centre is currently undergoing a multi-million pound regeneration project. A year ago, they started to rip down the 1960's complex that contained the old town hall, library and neighbouring shops (and a lot of my childhood memories). Ever since then, the centre of town has been one huge building site, but now the new centre is starting to take shape.

Today I had the opportunity to tour the building site, which is normally closed to the public. The tour was very interesting, and I got to wear a hard hat (some people are easily pleased!).

There has been a lot of local controversy over the design. The 1960's complex was torn down because it was 'an ugly box' but now there are people who say it's just being replaced by a new set of 'ugly boxes'. As you can see from the shot, and as the project manager told us today, there are no straight sides in this project!

There's still a year to go before completion is due, but having visited the site today, I am more hopeful that this project will actually enhance our town, and hopefully bring new business and people to the community.
