Starting my second year of uni, I have been watching all the new students come into Bristol and enjoy fresher’s week. It made me think about when I first came to the city, how much promise it held, how much opportunity there was. Now, a year on, I have looked back and realised that I definitely didn’t make total use of the facilities and opportunities open to me, and so I have decided to go all out this year. But getting further along in uni time-wise means that the work load gets more and more. Yes, it’s only been a week, but I can see that this one’s going to be tricky.
I feel like my social life needs a bump, so I am going to dedicate time to actually going out to clubs and pubs with more people from my course. And, with the boyfriend now tied up in running a society at his uni (caving, which sounds awesome) I’ve decided to also join a society which has been something on my to-do list for quite some time – canoeing. The soc go out on various day trips and whatnot and it sounds like a great way to break the tedium of a uni-work-home routine.
Today I also ventured (boldly) for the first time into the fabrication centre at Bower Ashton to inquire aboout their departments. I feel like this is a gem not to be overlooked, as where else in the world would you have access to a place like this 24/7? The fabrication centre is a place for students to realise their design ideas, and to do that there is a ceramics room, wood workshop, print centre, casting and welding room, knitting and ditigal embroidery rooms, 3D printers, and many more practices for any budding artist. And so, along with all my other strives, I am going to spend time after uni as much as possible using my resources to learn and practice ceramics and knitting and, gosh, anything else that takes my fancy. Because I can!
And thus, along with seeing the boyfriend once a week, begins my balancing act..
