Defensive?

Going over a bridge I saw these swans. The one on the right seemed to be raising himself up and at first I thought he was eating the leaves of the tree but it turned out that he appeared to be going through a range of postures making himself the largest he could possibly be so I guess there might have been a threat out of my sight on the right hand bank.
