Wasp on Polygonum
Another glorious mild still sunny day - and it's Saturday! Red is still featuring strongly today. As I did my usual early morning stroll round the garden I spotted wasps swarming around the polygonum. You may know polygonum by a variety of common names such as knotweed, knotgrass, bistort, tearthumb, or mile-a-minute - it does grow prolifically!
I remember reading that the Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintoch, who planned gardens as meticulously as houses, used it in the Hill House at Helensburgh. The wonderful Blip guru of all things Mackintosh - Stuart Robertson -will correct me if I'm wrong! I love its red and pinks, and the way it flowers long after other plants have packed it in.
