Pompeii House of Menander.

Day 6 Today had to be by far the best!! We docked in Naples Italy and went on a tour of the world famous excavation of Pompeii at the base if Mt. Vesuvius. Pompeii was once a thriving empire but was left in ashes after a volcanic eruption in the year 79AD!! The ruins offered a snapshot on daily life, the paved streets, public baths, shops, brothels, mansions and theatres. We went inside the remains of a mansion, the House of Menander, named after the poet whose portrait was on the wall. The house would have been beautiful, elegant and decorative with mosaic tiling. It was a typical Pompian house with atrium tuscanicum and peristyle ( an inner garden). Pompeii fascinated me! Back to the ship early afternoon just in time for the cocktail of the day - Santorini Tea - very refreshing!!
