Bideford bridge

A grey damp day but we were out and about with brother and sister in law looking at pottery that came out of a wood fired kiln last week and comparing it to the original pieces of North Devon-ware in the museum, beautiful harvest and commemorate jugs especially, from as early 1570!

This bridge was originally built just before 1300 and made of wood. It was later built over the top in stone. The arches are all different widths, supposedly because of the availability of lengths of wood.

I must keep up with local news better because we came across a book festival that started today in Appledore and are going to a new restaurant our visitors told us had opened within a mile of here ... they had read about it and we hadn't. Considering we live in the middle of nowhere we were somewhat surprised.
