Church Pews.

When I was young I always thought people sat wherever they wanted at church - that was the natural thing to do. It never crossed my mind that the more wealthy at some churches used to pay for an exclusive family pew - sometimes, as I've later seen, in a few churches the pews had their own little heaters to keep the occupants warm. It may still happen in a few places - I don't know. But the whole paying for an exclusive spot in a church tells an interesting story - most of it not good.
