MOTHER-IN-LAW'S SEAT

These prickly plants would make a very uncomfortable seat. Apologies to all the nice mothers-in- law!
We were hoping that the bijlia cana with its fat green succulent leaves and bright yellow flowers would finally be in bloom. This plant is only found in Prince Albert and for this reason it is very special. Its habitat is on ancient river beds that have not been disturbed for centuries. There are several sites around Prince Albert where one can find these plants.
We found a patch of these flowers near the area where we walk and look out for them each year at flowering time. When we looked for them this morning we could not find any and then we noticed holes in the ground. The whole area had been cleared of these rare plants.
I feel so angry! What can one do? The thieves had the cheek to mark the place with stones so that they could find it again with ease.
Back to my photo. I would like to seat the thief on the euphorbia that I have photographed while I lecture them on the evils of removing these valuable plants and selling them for personal gain
Maybe I will do an installation on site in the veld with little flags marking the position of each plant that has been stolen.
