Juvenile Herring Gull
What a lazy day. Even this photo is a bit lazy, I took it out the office window and on top of across the roads roof.
It's been a gloomy day again, hence a black and white portrait.
There is a small colony of Herring Gulls here in Tonyrefail. I am told that they whole colony has grown from a single pair that turned up a number of years ago and successfully fledged two youngsters from a nest site on top of the BT exchange.
There a couple of Juveniles about now, so they clearly have fledged another brood this year.
Believe it or not Herring Gulls are Red Listed bird, meaning they are at a great conservation risk. Their home habitat has all but gone, which is why they have adapted to our cities and town centres.
Pest to some, but I find them impressive birds. You never really pay attention to just how big they are until they land next to a Jackdaw, which is dwarfed by it.
