The end of the Season

Today is the end of the high season on Lake Como. Tomorrow the ferries go onto their Autumn timetable with a reduced service compared to the frequency on offer today.

To signal the change in season the promised thunderstorm arrived at 3 am. By the sound of it the thunder was just overhead. Everything shook as the sky exploded, the power went off, and various alarms started to sound. Six minutes later there was another thunderclap, again it seemed to be immediately overhead. A little later the rain started. At 4 am I got up and turned the power back on, and made sure the car alarm was quiet.

It rained for most of the morning. We took the car into Menaggio to do a little last minute shopping. In Menaggio there was a parachuting display and rides around the lake by helicopter were on offer. There are still a fair number of people around, but a bit of an end of season feel, partly due to the weather no doubt.
