Arrival in Florence
The morning started out smoothly until I forgot my winter coat..thanks Matt. I made a new friend with the only other girl flying from Pittsburgh and we met up with the group in Newark and enjoyed some Jamba Juice. I was so ansy to get going. We finally boarded out long flight but I was in and out of sleep the whole time. The food was...well it's airplane food. Can't expect gourmet. I was freezing on the flight, must have been 50 degrees but I appreciated it after I've been sweating non stop since I've arrived. Another thing...thought I was being smart by buying a red suitcase- that way I could spot it amongst all the black suitcases...turns out everyone else had the same idea. We changed on the bus and got ready for our five hour trip from Rome to Florence...on a very uncomfortable bus. Thinking we'd at least enjoy the scenery...it was nothing different...cars, highway, shell gas station, hotels...nothing to "oo" and "ahh" about. As my roommate said..."It kinda looks like Mexico." It got more attractive close to Florence though.
When we arrived at the Santa Novella Station, we were all just thrown into taxis with our roommates and sent off. Since we have no cell phones yet, we had no way of contacting anyone else in the group...so we unpacked, walked around, picked up a few things we needed, showered and went to dinner. It's incredibly hot here, but I've become used to being a sweaty mess already. Guess that's a good thing?
It's been weird today having no communication outside of the group I was with...also having no sense of what time it was...but I'll be getting a cell phone tomorrow and hopefully internet in my apartment soon!
The pic is with 4 of my 5 roomies [she's taking the picture]. Out apartment is super cute! I'll have to post them up on facebook or something.
Email me with questions :]
But for now...Ciao!
