"the stage is set"
Fringe Weekend!!
With Phil as chief navigator we set off from Dundee to base ourselves at my uncle and aunt's flat for the weekend! It was the first time I had driven to Edinburgh but I got us there in one piece - major achievement! :)
First stop on our Fringe marathon was a show recommendation from Mim - 'A Simple Space' by Gravity and Other Myths, a group of 6 people, all talented acrobats who pushed gravity to its limits! From crazy balance shapes showing their strength to the girl walking on the guys faces and being flung around in their finale like a ragdoll!! It was truly mind-blowing stuff that left me speechless for hours after! It was an intimate space with just simple lighting, mats, a drum beat and no dialogue - their talent did all the talking for them! I can't wait to see what they do next!
A quick coffee stop and then we took in some comedy theatre - 'title of show' - a show about two guys writing a show about two guys writing a show! Confusing but relatively funny!
Phil and I tried to pick different shows so we got a taster of everything so 'Piff the Magic Dragon and Mr Piffles' was next up - a magic show with a dog! Funny in its own right with good magic but it ran over time leaving us late for my must see show - Daniel Sloss!! I love this comedian so there was no way I was missing his show! And he did not disappoint! Side hurting laughter as he gave his view on life in his early 20's!
Traditional chips with Edinburgh salt n sauce at the Grassmarket, followed by a drink was enough fuel to prepare us for the last show of the day - 'Best of the Fest' comedy at midnight! By far the biggest venue we'd been in all day and full of late night festival goers!
Walking back into the flat at nearly 2am was a good sign of a great first day at the Fringe if I do say so myself! Time to do it all over again tomorrow! :)
