The Lily
This morning we had the launch of the Creative Mackintosh Festival Programme at the House for an Art Lover.
Creative Mackintosh 2013 is the second year of a new programme of creative arts and cultural events to celebrate the creative legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The Festival runs from 12-27 October 2013.
The Festival will include exhibitions, talks, walks, tours, music, dance and drama performances, childrens activities and workshops for all, in the unique Mackintosh venues in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Mackintoshs architecture and iconic buildings will be the stage for the festival and demonstrate his lasting legacy to the city where he lived and worked.
During the morning we had a photoshoot for the press, but this shot of the Lily caught my attention beside the piano in the Music Room.
I like this poem of the Lily by William Blake:
The modest Rose puts forth a thorn,
The humble sheep a threat'ning horn:
While the Lily white shall in love delight,
Nor a thorn nor a threat stain her beauty bright.
This afternoon I was one of the judges in the Doors Open Photographic Competition ‘Inspired by Mackintosh’. Following last year’s success, Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and Glasgow Mackintosh teamed up to offer the chance to have winners photographs displayed as part of The Creative Mackintosh Festival and within Glasgow Airport. The Herald photographer Martin Shields was at the launch this morning and was also one of the judges. It was good to find out that he is a fellow blipper.
