Tuesday: Astoria
Today was mainly a driving day - Winthrop, Washington, to Astoria, Oregon. The first part of our journey was among wonderful quiet single lanes, taking us past creeks, forests, and shrubby hills. Mind you, if you believed the road signs, you'd think it was total chaos on the roads as we saw signs warning us against: deer, elk, sheep (big horn and short horn), tractors, pedestrians, school crossings, cyclists, merging lanes and rocks........
We have also been enjoying listening to a variety of radio on our travels, particularly local radio. Our favourite today was a radio presenter interviewing the local librarian about a film that neither of them had seen.
Anyway, Astoria - absolutely lovely! We have decided we could live here. It has something of Edward Hopper and John Steinbeck's 'Cannery Row' about it. A great atmosphere, coupled with a good night in the Fort George Brewery has made for a lovely stay.
