Cupstone

This granite stone which is about half a man's height is called a cupstone because it has a cluster of small round holes on its surface.

It is uncertain how these indentations have been created, but it is believed that the origin of various cupstones in Finland dates at least back to the Iron Age.

This particular stone is located in Iittala (near the city of Hämeenlinna), and it has also been used as a sacrificial stone of some kind.

In the background: the local church spire.
