Juvenile Gannet: Morus bassanus aka Sula bassana

This young gannet (Morus bassanus aka Sula bassana) was in a bad way. It was just standing still on the beach as the tide went out. The drooping eyelid would suggest it doesn't have long to live. Its worst visible injury was a broken left wing which it dragged along the ground when it moved and failed to extend when it stretched out its right wing.

However, it was still active enough to keep out of the way of people and dogs. A dog-walker that I spoke to (at 4pm) said it was there at 7am when she first walked her dog. It appears to have coped with further dangers all day but I don't think it will survive much longer.
