Boston Day 4

Although I had some days in Boston to do my own thing, Mo and I agreed that we would have to go to the Aquarium together - they've recently renovated, and she wanted to go to see the new stuff going on there. It was a lot of fun, with lots of sea life to admire. We saw the sea lions being trained and played with for a short while, and the penguins being fed. We took our time wandering up through the various levels, careful not to miss anything. We touched all the touchy feely exhibits, although I wasn't too keen on touching the crabs and thought it strange to encourage kids to pat sting rays. At the centre of the aquarium is this large tank full of different things. The sharks have been taken out while they remove a shark eating parasite (or something) from the water with low amounts of copper, but everything else was swimming around looking fairly content. There was even a diver cleaning the windows!

After the aquarium we went off to have a squiz at King's Chapel, next to the old City Hall. It is a lovely example of simple church design, with very little embellishment, but full of light. One of Mo's housemates works there, so she was able to tell us about it, and then startle us by coming up a set of stairs from the crypt behind us just as we were reading about the supposed ghosts in the crypt... Creeeepy!

We left as the chapel was closing, at 4pm, and knew a lot of the other things on our list would also be closing up for the day in the next hour or so. We decided to have a look at the Boston Public Library, thinking it would be open until at least 6pm. We got there and discovered it was open until 9! Mo showed me through the spectacular building, complete with painted rooms and marble staircases, and then took me into a maps exhibition, with lots of old maps showing the growth and development of Boston. I was in happy-ville. Eventually hunger drove us out and on to other pastures, with left overs waiting in the fridge for us. So with some reluctance I left the exhibition, took a final admiring look at the building, and we went back to Mo's to recuperate.
