89 and 98a

As I raised the camera to my eye I could hear, faintly in the background, Ben shouting "Get orf my laaaaand!"

This is the Rochdale canal as it passes through the centre of Manchester. Geeks will look at the number in puzzlement - everyone knows that the Rochdale only has 92 locks so why the number 98a? Well that's the cute metal footbridge at the tail of the lock - and that also explains why it has the letter; it was built in 2000 long after the other bridges had been built and numbered. Fleeting visit to my Heimat for a special gig tomorrow. Despite the rain I think I'll have a bit of a mooch around town this evening.
