Sand Dollars

These are what my friend and I found on the beach yesterday. Sand dollars are flat sea urchins, they burrow in the sand and the creature inside are a delicacy to the sea gulls. That is why they are such a gift to come across. Most of the ones here in Maine are about 2 to 3 inches in diameter and they are a dark grayish color. When left to dry out, I rinse them in a bleach and water mix to take away the smell. People will paint and decorate them for Christmas ornaments.
