fit for a queen
It's asparagus time in the valley...YEAH!!! Short though the season is, following the signs to a shed with a basket full of purple, green and white spears is a lovely way to spend an hour on a sunny morning.
Harrie and Petra have been growing asparagus for almost 25 years and two years ago when the Queen and Prince Phillip were in town to open the CHOGM gathering, their white asparagus was on the menu!!
White asparagus is white because it is not exposed to sunlight and is a huge hit with local Europeans who like the spears fat and juicy. Rather than 'snapping' the ends they should be peeled so all the spear is used.
The trio blipped are the three varieties they grow and tonight they will be a posh addition to a Friday night treat with crime on the telly...steak and chips :)
Three bunches of the tri colours from the farm gate was $10.00!!
A bargain.
