On My Wish List

If you had asked me last week to name something on my wish list, I would most likely have come up with something along the lines of "An African Safari".

But after the events of the last two days, I can honestly and whole heartedly say that at the very top of my wish list would be for Sally to not be so devastatingly ill. I wish she could live out her full span of years happy, healthy, and carefree. I wish that we would never be parted from each other. I wish that she will not suffer. I wish that this wretched disease didn't exist. I wish that my heart won't break completely into a zillion little pieces. I wish that I could stop crying. I wish I could turn back time.

I am fully aware that none of these wishes will be granted. So I wish that Sally's last few days or weeks or months will be comfortable, happy, and filled with love and ear scratches and tummy rubs. I wish that she gets all the poached chicken breasts and cheese she wants to eat. Oh, and that once ... just once ... she actually manages to catch a squirrel. A toothless, slow squirrel, which will play nicely with her.

PS: I promise not to continue to be maudlin.
