Gnarly Oak (Summer/Fall)

This is a third in a series of pictures of this tree in different seasons--yes we DO have seasons, just not as pronounced as in other places. The other two pictures appear on January 3, 2013 (Winter) and March 22, 2013 (Spring). Ozzie and I were out early this morning and I liked the light behind the limbs of the tree which hasn't begun to lose its leaves yet.

It seems as though every major intersection is affected by construction, most of which was scheduled to be completed months ago. Weather doesn't offer any excuses because it has been sunny and warm since January! I don't know why it is so impossible to complete anything on time and on budget--buildings, roads, bridges, even the supercollider has been delayed until the cost quadruples, or cancelled because the cost had become unsupportable. What is the problem?

It took me an extra fifteen minutes to meet OilMan and friends at a restaurant across town because of construction at a major intersection. The restaurant was unusually crowded too--perhaps because Levi Leipheimer's Gran Fondo is tomorrow. Lunch was lovely, however--well worth the trip, with lots of not-so-small plates of grilled shrimp, endive salad with truffles and cheese, lamb chops and tuna tartar. Now it's time for a nap.
