Solace Day 10: Uncoiling
I'm usually out of the boat with a cup of tea and the camera before 7.30am, today was no exception. Overnight the mid-line had been coiled on top of the hatch. As the hatch had been slid open the rope had been dragged across the dew. I liked the pattern it had left.
It being Sunday, I had to look out for somewhere to stop and buy The Mother a Sunday Telegraph. As luck would have it a pedestrian we called out to, pointed to a bridge, beyond which was a short-cut to Sainsburys in Nottingham.
I decided that it was such a short distance that The Mother could be taken out, too. When we got into the store she swapped her wheelchair for a mobility scooter. What fun she had! We couldn't spend long in the shop but it made her holiday for her!
We were glad to get off the Trent today and back onto the Trent & Mersey canal, much less daunting. We made rapid progress to keep well ahead of three boats full of beginners. I'm sure they benefitted from our advice that they needed to bring a windlass with them when the came to the lock gates. We showed them what one looked like and how to use them safely!
