Nida, on the Neringa Spit, Lithuania
Thomas Mann lurked here now and then (summers of 1930-32). The south of the Spit belongs to Russia (Kaliningrad Province). This image is looking out into the Curonian Lagoon between the Spit and Lithuania mainland. The official name is the Curonian Spit, but is also called Neringa after the sea goddess.
We walked up onto the great Parnidis Dune just south of Nida to see the huge sundial.
During a woodland walk further north, we were told Lithuanian legends illustrated by wooden sculptures placed in the woods.
