Abbazia di S.Antimo

How the week has flown by leaving so many memories of the stunning Tuscan landscape and good company.

Our last full day was spent at the market town of Montalcino where we spent the morning on street type pictures of the market and its local characters. After a leisurely lunch of local fare in one of the many cafes in the town we moved on to the evocative St. Antimo Abbey a short distance away.

The Abbey is set amongst vineyards below the hillside surrounded by ancient olive trees which are said to be older than Christianity itself.

A community of white robed monks tend the gardens and hold services in the austere but airy and very beautiful abbey.

There was a poignant moment here when two of our party lit candles in memory of their late fathers.
