Keep on Turning
An unhurried and pleasant pootle along the canal this afternoon with Samantha.
Wandered around the Helix Park in a bit of a drizzle, then on to the Kelpies (those are Monday blips only though) and the other bits of public art dotted around the area, then turned into the breeze and headed up along the towpaths to the Falkirk Wheel.
This shot shows one canal barge on the wheel making it's way down to the Forth and Clyde canal, whilst another is lifted 35m to join the Union canal. I'm always amazed at how effortlessly this is achieved as the huge structure turns, almost in complete silence, and lifts the gondolas gently up and down.
Watched the wheel spin a couple of times over a mug of coffee and and a slice of cake and realised it's quite a privilege to have two fantastic feats of engineering within easy pootling distance of each other.
