Autumn's jewels
Just the most perfect of October days. I should have risen early, as there was almost certainly a mist along the river, but I woke with a nasty headache and a bit of a sore throat, so staying in bed seemed more appealing. By the time Rosie and I went out, the early morning chill had gone and it was very pleasant walking along without the need for a jacket. There was no trace of the mist, but the grass was dew soaked, and all the dandelion seed-heads were beaded with sparkling jewels.
The rest of the day was filled with more domestic busyness - the washing pile is now almost gone and the cupboards and fridge are filled with food again. I nearly went for a second walk this afternoon, but in the end decided to spend time in the garden, weeding, mowing the lawn and cutting back the ivy that was threatening to engulf Ben's window, like something out of a fairy-tale. I noticed that one of our semi-feral grape vines, that scrambles into an apple tree, is loaded with bunches of dark purple pebble-sized fruit. Might be time to find the demi-johns!
