Roland

Initially he was a figure in the background mowing the grass and piling heaps of leaves. I was having a quick lunch in the open and taking a few floral shots. Then he approached with a smile and asked "Any good shots?"

Roland has been looking after Forbury Gardens for 21 years now. He designs the flowerbeds and selects the seasonal plants. He loves photography and gave me some valuable tips - "If you want to shoot flowers, come early in the morning! The light is best then. If there's a breeze, use a quick shutter speed to avoid blur."
I'm meeting him on Wednesday before work to have tea in his hut and bring him some prints. He'll show me his collection of photographs. He's particularly keen on ladybirds.
Can't wait.
Here's more of Roland and his floral kingdom.
