PITTENCRIEFF PARK GATES
In 1902 Andrew Carnegie, the rich and generous benefactor, purchased Pittencrieff Estate as a gift to the people of Dunfermline. When his wife died he arranged for these gates to be erected in her memory in 1929. They are regarded with pride by the people of Dunfermline today who continue to enjoy the extensive and enjoyable facilities his generosity provided.
Skirting the main gates photographed here are massive columns in stone acting as wings to the central entrance; they exhibit the stonemason's skill and I am told my maternal grandfather, Robert Coll, who owned a stonemason and housebuilding business in the town contributed to the erection of the stonework.
