The 1741 is delayed...

Chaos at Waterloo tonight, with all trains suspended in and out due to an accident at West Byfleet. My train was the only one marked as "Boarding" at the station...and so everyone heading south-west seemed to pile on. It was like one of those films Clive James used to show of sumo wrestlers pushing commuters onto Tokyo bullet trains. Except by the time our train actually left - an hour after it was supposed to - it was less like a bullet and more like a mullet, nosing along through the suburbs at five mph. Spirits were pretty high but after an hour and a half cramped up vertically you could see people's backs and knees starting to ache. The 35 minute journey had taken two and a quarter hours by the time we rolled in to my station. I hate working in London sometimes.
