Whippletree

Dogwood has been on my mind recently as I contemplate how to fill a view when the annuals are all up and that won't be long now. I've gone for dogwood because of their colourful stems in winter. A couple of garden centres have benefitted from the attention I am giving them.

This blip is the tip of one of them taken on a wet, drizzly day.

I looked up dogwood in Wikipedia largely to find out why it is called dogwood. It seems the derivation is not certain. But a really old name for it was Whipple-tree which has a great ring to it. So I'll be planting a few whipples shortly.
