Old Chestnut

A prickled fortress,
Holds the kernel of new life,
On the old tree stump.

This tree stump is huge ... I haven't counted the rings (not enough fingers and toes), but I'm guessing a very old tree. It seemed apt that a chestnut had fallen from a new tree onto the old stump .... the circle of life?
