Myth - Damien Hurst.

This is in the foyer at work. A half flayed unicorn. Quite an interesting concept even if the sculpture is a bit naive. The idea is that by taking something mythical and exposing its inner workings - then that act makes the myth somehow more believable, more real. Science evidences / gives credibility to something fanciful, imaginary, unreal - their by 'exploding the myth'. He has a brother - a Pegasus called 'Legend'.
I think it could have been much more powerful if the execution were better. Brings to mind the plasticised bodies of Gunther von Hagens and the Frankenstein creations of early bio science. Not that I'm advocating animal slaughter for the sake of art far from it - but I would have thought a more detailed and convincing rendering could have been achieved for what is essentially a horse with a Cornetto on it's head!

In other news - Mac may be arriving on the 28th. Such a long time away, want it now >:-{
