KAWAII - "Cute"
I've decided to post this photograph because perhaps can be seen as an unique shoot.
Today as I was walking to the Hanamachi (Geisha-Town), a spot a group of Maiko going for lunch. One of them, the one wearing makeup, as she noticed that I was taking pictures she decide to open her SENSU (Japanese Hand Fan) and pose for a photograph between the crowd.
The kind of SENSU that she opened is the one that Maiko and Geiko carrying at all times.
They're very small and the only purposes are to be always presented closed in an horizontal way or laid on the TATAMI mat:
1- As a friendly symbol to welcome the persons facing the Maiko or Geiko
2- To establish how close, (the limit/ distance), one can get to the Maiko or Geiko.
They're not intended to be open or for airflow for the purpose of cooling or refreshing. The kind Maiko as she was talking to her friend she opened and pose for the picture, without even once looking at the camera.
It's obviously that the young Maiko was flattered by the attention of the camera...
