Alexander's Band

On the way home from Iona on another W & W (wet & wild) day I was treated to a double rainbow. It is caused by a double reflection of sunlight inside the raindrops, and appear at an angle of 50–53° to the original bow. As a result of the second reflection, the colours of a secondary rainbow are inverted compared to the primary bow.

The unlit sky between the bows is called Alexander's Bow named after Alexander of Aphrodisias AD200 who was a Peripatetic philosopher. I find it amazing how much I learn, just by doing my daily blip!
