Exeter Airport
Caught the morning train from Waterloo to Exeter St. Davids, about 3 hrs and 30 mins. A bus from there to Exeter Airport where all travel plans came to a screeching halt.
We were booked to fly from Exeter to St. Mary's on the Isles of Scilly at 3:15 p.m. but it was perfectly clear as soon as we arrived at the airport that things were not going according to plan. The flight ahead of us had been canceled and the check-in desk for Isles of Scilly Travel was a hive of rescheduling activity and unhappy looking customers. Things were not looking hopeful but then we were told that although the previous flight had been canceled and those travelers re-routed to Penzance by bus our plane would indeed be taking off. From what we could gather, all the planes were stuck down in Lands End and couldn't take off because of heavy fog.
So we were checked in, our baggage disappeared on the conveyor belt and off we went to security and through to the departures lounge to wait, and wait some more. Departure time came and went and finally the departures board flashed that we all needed to return to check-in! Argh.
All flights were canceled for the day. Our options were to be rescheduled to the next flight the following day, to get a train to Penzance and then take the boat across to St. Mary's, or cancel the whole trip. Oh dear. We ended up rescheduling our flight for the next day and keeping our fingers crossed that the weather would be behaving by then. Our next task was to find hotel rooms for the night and retrieve our bags.
