"As Thick As A Bag"
Fog. Again. Apparently the Scillonians have never known fog like it. At least not since 1983, or something like that.
Our 11:30 a.m. boat trip out to the Norrard Rocks was canceled. The boatman described the fog as being "as thick as a bag" and we'd see nothing, so it was agreed we'd all meet again the following day at the same time in the hopes of better conditions.
We took the 2 p.m. boat to the island of St. Agnes instead, what a delightful place! The last boat back to St. Mary's was at 4 p.m., definitely not enough time to explore the island properly so we agreed a return trip would be necessary. All across the islands along the pathways are wonderful hedgerows full of flowers, plants, endless sweet blackberries that we'd pick and eat as we walked. Birds and hundreds of butterflies were along these hedgerows, flitting around us. Also found on all of the inhabited islands are little stands where people leave things out for purchase, the prices clearly marked and with an honesty box for payment. These stands are mostly filled with flowers and fruit and vegetables, but on St. Agnes we found things people had made, jewelry and the like, made out of beach findings. Very charming.
