Winery Fromberg
HISTORY
The viticulture in Limburg was reintroduced in the 80s of the last century . Reintroduced as to the time of Napoleon II viticulture in this region was quite normal . The protection Napoleon II offered to the wine production in France and years later created great phylloxera epidemic across Europe destroyed the vineyards , the wine made in Limburg for 100 % disappeared .
The changes in recent decades in farming and the shift of the southern climate to our regions , initially did the wine only in Limburg , but now even grow explosively in the Netherlands.
WINERY FROMBERG
The slope on which the vineyards of the Winery Fromberg you find in eastern South Limburg . Paul Wiertz a traditional farmer came to age , and it was against his retirement , he wanted to slow down to do it , he thought. So in 1991 he planted the first vines on the hillside along with his son , daughter and son . He was therein advised by the German Wine Academy in Geisenheim . The first years of the existence of the vineyard he planted the grape Muller Thurgau , Auxerrois . Meanwhile there Bacchus , Reichensteiner , Riesling , Pinot Noir , Dornfelder and Monarch added.
ON GOOD GROUND
We're okay with our Fromberg , the 3 acre vineyard is the only vineyard slope in the Netherlands that is completely oriented to the south . Moreover, it is the highest vineyard in the Netherlands . The slope angle is almost equal to the ideal angle at which the vine thrives .
The soil consists of a mineral-rich top layer mixed with loess Holocene gravel on surfaces of mineral-rich limestone ( marl ) , to where the roots of our vines easy reach . The substrate consists of the older , and therefore harder marl kind . This means that the grape has to work the minerals it contains to include hard. This in turn ensures sharp sticks with grapes that deliver powerful pronounced wines .
INTRODUCING
Carmen and Marcel Soomers have been from the beginning of the winery , founded in 1991 , the face of winery Fromberg . Along with Maurice Wiertz (brother ) and Paul wiertz (father ) they passed in 1991 the courage to several hundred vines to entrust the slopes of Fromberg . These slopes are on the edge an area better known as the Hill .
I love the the winery. It is very idyllic. From the outside it does not look like a wine factory. In the building are the presses, a shop and a cozy meeting and the wine cellar.
