Oni
I started out on a road trip around Shikoku, the smallest of Japan's main islands. Our first stop was a town called Beppu in Oita prefecture- which is one of, if not the most famous town for natural hot springs. The city smells like sulfur, but the residents get free hot water in their homes because it flows so freely.
I don't know why or what he represents, but for some reason the area of the we were staying in had a shrine honoring this big nosed oni (ogre). This statue is so funny! I like it.
We ate dinner at this little izakaya (dining bar), it was delicious and the people, workers and customers, were really fun. One man bought us a bottle of beer and then one man bought our home meal! Apparently he is very rich and often treats people. We think it's because he thought my friend looks like John Travolta.
Next stop Uwajima, Ehime.
