Castoffs

The two bells in the bottom corners of this photo were sitting outside the Patzcuaro Basilica. They both had cracks, like the United States Liberty Bell, rendering them unusable in the bell tower behind them. The bell on the right had a date of 1929 while the one of the left was 1908. I'm sure these are not the first bells cast aside as the Basilica was first constructed in the mid-1500s.
I was struck (pun intended) by the symmetry in this shot and the fact that the bells undoubtably once resided in the white tower, part of which makes a stark background. There is also a sense of scale provided by the doorway in the center.
