Brooklyn
The Statue of Liberty really isn't just about the Statue of Liberty. Turns out, there's a fantastic history and symbolism behind her entire body, allusions to the French Revolution, and something I never knew: she is in fact stepping forward! I had no idea, I always thought that she was stood static!
Another fun fact: the movies don't lie. It really is that easy to get a cab in New York City. We genuinely never had to step out for more than sixty seconds before we found one.
A quick stop off at South Ferry Sea Port for lobster and root beer to top up our energy levels and then it was on to the Brooklyn Bridge. Such awe-inspiring architecture, such a lot of people... and such a long way to walk. The bridge actually goes way further into both sides of the city than it appears to. We then took our aching feet to a production of Newsies on Broadway - bit of history in there about the newsie strike in New York City at the turn of the century - and a late night snack stop for some real NYC pizza.
