After the Death of the Bear

Phoebe Cummings - British Ceramics Biennial

This installation, in the old Spode factory in Stoke On Trent, is designed to represent a common pattern found on plates made by Spode and others called "Death of the Bear". Here the scene is depicted after the hunters and their dogs have left and all is once again peaceful and quiet. It seems all the more powerful for being set in a factory space where once there were hundreds of workers churning out pottery, now, all gone.
