Nazi massacre, Oradour-sur-Glane

On this day we visited one of the prettiest villages in the Poitou-Charentes region of France, and then went on to see the site of the terrible massacre that took place on 10 June 1944.

In stark contrast to sunflowers and rustic architecture, the ruins of Oradour-sur-Glane leave a haunting impression. 642 men, women and children were killed in an unexplained wartime atrocity. The site has been left in memory of those civilians, and contains poignant reminders of lives abruptly interupted.
