Left Waiting...

For 27 years an iconic Manchester landmark building has been left to decay by its property development owners. The former headquarters of the Manchester Fire Brigade on London Road, built in 1909, housed a Police Station, an Ambulance Station, a Bank, a Coroner’s Court, a Gas-meter testing station and was home to firemen and their families who lived in flats within the complex. The Grade II listed building is a fine example of Edwardian architecture built in brick and steel with a cladding of terracotta. The fire station operated for 80 years before its closure in 1986 and has lay dormant ever since. The current owners have plans for a 4 star hotel but have recently applied to Manchester Council to further extend its planning permission, for another three years in the meantime, this grand building is left to wait and decay even more.
