Carn na Fhreicadain
Overnight temperatures dropped to near freezing, and the hills were overcast at waking up time. After a slow morning, I headed to Kingussie and cycled up the road beside the Gynack Burn towards Pitmain Lodge. The smooth tarmac ended and I continued on a rougher track to climb onto Beinn Bhreac. On the way I passed an unlocked wooden building which was not on the map. Inside the single roomed building was a round pine table with seats for twelve souls. Had I stumbled across some secret society?
The cloud base was at 700m and I plodded onto the summit, then cycled across the high plateau to the Corbett of Carn an Fhreiceadain (878m). No view due to the cloud, so continued west and descended rapidly back to Pitmain Lodge and Kingussie.
The weather improved in the afternoon. Pheasant, partridge, hare (!), finches, tits, robin, dunnock now feeding outside the kitchen window.
