Over the Horizon

Lime kiln

Sunday afternoon.

No chores and I have the day off. Biking many miles distant through hilly country roads abutting big sculpted fields of grass in a mosaic of farms and homesteads in the valley of the hills. Grueling up hill to crest on the deep blue of the sound below. Cool fresh air speeding past my face on the downhill!....and cruising, hugging the coast all the way to Lime Kiln State Park. Tiptoeing around tide pools and driftwood at a place along the shoreline and sitting in the shade gazing out at the view framed by the edges of the cinnamon bark madrone trees round these parts. A good place to see whales, gray whales and orcas migrating along the channel. Vancouver Island and the distant mountains of the Olympic peninsula across the waters. No whales but basking in the view and the afternoon sun all the same.

I snapped this shot of some kayakers in a place called dead man's cove earlier in the day. Big bluffs dropping into the straights and the tops of tall bull kelp fronds just barely poking above the surface...
