From the moment we woke up, today was conspiring against us. It was pouring with rain yet our picnic for the zoo was already packed. I went for a shower but the water was cold as the boiler had locked out. By the time Chris had fixed it we needed to leave so Isaac could nap on the way in the car. So off we set, in the rain, to the zoo. We got there at 11 and had lunch in the car, incase there wasn't a dry spot on the way round. Amelie didn't enjoy our car picnic, she was impatient to go in. Isaac loved it, he was loving getting to eat his lunch somewhere different! After lunch we worked our way round (the zoo is set up quite nicely in a trail, one way round, sort of route) in the rain. Amelie liked the small monkeys, the mice, the snakes and the beavers. She also had fun on the Thomas train and doing the various "zoolympics" on the way round. They were little activities she could do to compare herself to the animals. Amelie weighed the same as an otter, could run away from an alligator and could reach the same decibels as a penguin! We collected stamps of the animals we had seen and recorded all her zoolympics achievements too. Amelie chose a plastic snake and bat from the shop and we had some warm donuts to hear us up a bit (and distract Amelie from skinned hand and knees from a fall she had). We also let her have a play in the soft play, although took turns at going round with her as she wouldn't go by herself. Eventually we made our way back to the car ( after one last trip on Thomas) and set off home. Isaac had a nap and Amelie played with her snake and bat. When we got in she was quite hyped up and we skyped my mum and dad, she danced and sang and showed them all the zoo stuff. All went downhill when they went off though as she just got really tired really quickly. She also realised at this point it wasn't just her hands she had hurt, she saw her knees and started crying all over again. She says she had a nice day though! Both are tucked up in bed and Chris is off out to work. I don't envy him! Bed is calling me too.
