Dominion Cinema, Morningside

A very pleasant and relaxing day. A short walk (hobble) around Balerno before setting off for Sunday lunch at the Sheeps Heid at Duddulston. Not the worst lunch I've had but not the best either. Our visit coincided with a huge group of people who arrived at the same time. So we had to wait for quite a while and when the food eventually came the Yorkshire puddings were cold as was the cauliflower.

From the Sheeps Heid we went to see Sunshine on Leith at the Dominion in Morningside. I'm not a great film fanatic but I enjoyed both the venue and the film. The film was very well received by the partisan Edinburgh audience, set as it is in this beautiful city. I'm not sure what the Glaswegians will think as there were a few derogatory comments about that city as there were about England. But you expect that.

The plot centred around the songs of The Proclaimers and ended predictably with 500 miles. The cinema was great, a throwback to bygone years. Not multiplex in an out of town retail park but a good old fashioned independent picture house with great seats, armchairs which reclined and had leg rests that you could raise (like an airplane seat but bigger and more comfortable) and little tables for the coke and copious amounts of popcorn.

Spent the evening watching TV but even the best of days has a downside.
