The Porlock Box

This is an old AA box. The Automobile Association set up a network of such boxes on Britain's roads for use by motorists in emergencies. They decommissioned them in 2002, but apparently 19 remain on public roads, and 8 of them are Grade II listed. I don't think this is one of those 8. However I was interested to find these boxes referred to as "lighthouses of the road", as we were on our way to a lighthouse!

Porlock has two other claims to fame - the Person from Porlock and a 1 in 4 gradient hill, which I wish never to drive again!
