On guard on many streets these pseudo Police. Technically, they are part of the Chinese Police Service but their role is really just a guard doing sentry duty. They just to sit here all day under a collapsable awning cum tent. They never patrol the streets in fact Chinese police of any description almost never patrol the streets a 'bobby on the beat' is an utterly alien concept in the Mainland of China.

One humorous thing you may hear from Mainlanders who visit Hong Kong, where Police do patrol the streets, is they feel Hong Kong Police look like real Police. Probably because they are and are not sat behind a desk on the street or glued behind a desk in a Police station.
